Praying for Boys - By: Brooke McGlothlin

recently received a complimentary copy of Praying for Boys by Brooke McGlothlin from Bethany House. I was very excited about receiving this book, since I just had my first baby, and it's a boy! This book is probably the favorite book I've received, since I started reviewing books. Brooke writes in such a way, that she makes you feel as if you are old friends just talking about your kids. She writes with such honesty and gives you insight into what it's truly like to be a mother of boys. She is also the co-founder of the online community for mothers of boys (you can find the website here).

Although this book seems to be written for mothers with older boys, I've found this book to be so helpful. I know it has only been 11 weeks with my sweet boy, it's never too early to start praying for your boy. In the beginning of the book, Brooke discusses the importance of praying for your son. After all, we aren't just raising little boys. We are raising future husbands, pastors, youth pastors, teachers, business men, heck, maybe even the future president. She stresses how there is a battle in the world today for the hearts of our boys. Each chapter of the book addresses a new subject of how to pray for your boy. There are verses at the end of each chapter along with a sample prayer, showing how to pray that scripture.

This book is also setup in such a way that you could use it for a Bible Study or Ladies' Group. There are questions for reflection and discussion at the end of each chapter (along with the Scripture and prayers). If you wanted to use this book for one of those purposes, Brooke is such a wonderful help! At the end of the book, she discusses how to approach this book, if you wanted to use it for a group in person or online (which is genius! I never would've thought about an online prayer/Bible study group online for those of us, who are too busy to make it out for a meeting every week!)

Now before you say, 'I'm not a mom of young boys, that book isn't for me', think again. This book isn't just for moms of young boys. It's for dads and grandparents, aunts and uncles, and even mothers of girls. Yes, it's setup for mothers of boys, but the prayers and topics are just as good for girls. These prayers are not only for children either. The wonderful things about prayers is that they're timeless and can be prayed for any age.  If you commit to praying these prayers for anyone in your life, you will find your life to be transformed by the prayers you pray for others. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially to mothers of boys.
